Artificial Grass: FAQs

Artificial Grass: FAQs

Through our partnership with Trulawn, we are here to provide you with all the information you need before the installation of artificial grass in your garden.

What is artificial grass?

Artificial grass is a synthetic alternative to natural grass that looks almost identical to how natural grass looks but without the drawback of having to maintain.

Artificial grass is made from three main materials:

  • Polyethylene – Long-lasting compound which is soft and gentle on the skin.
  • Polypropylene – Also a long-lasting compound that creates the sharpness of the grass blades.
  • Nylon – An extremely robust material that cools the turfing when hot.

Where can artificial grass be installed?

Artificial grass can be installed in any location you choose. Whether that be in the back garden or even on your roof if that’s what you require. Modern versions of artificial grass are very adaptable, allowing for installation to be placed upon; soil, turf, concrete, tarmac, and paving.

Synthetic grass is installed through a simple process that our landscape contractors are extremely proficient and experienced at doing. This process begins with removing your current layer of grass, watering the soil, and turning over to give a 10cm depth to provide a solid base. The next step is to level out the soil, ready for your artificial grass to be installed.

Is artificial grass safe for children and pets?

Our partners over at Trulawn design their artificial grass with children and pets at the forefront of their product development and have passed numerous, extensive safety checks to ensure the safety of your children and pets. Due to the wide range of synthetic grass options, some are layed with an extra layer of fibre to create softer landings.

What is the cost of getting Artificial Grass installed?

Dependent on what artificial grass product you select, the price will vary. However, if you decide to entrust Bud Landscapes with your artificial grass installation, our prices begin at £45. This price includes; the price of the materials and installment.

How long will my new lawn last?

Recent advancements to the design of artificial grass have allowed for certain models to last up to 20-years maintenance-free, without losing a tint of colour all-year-round.

How to maintain your Artificial Grass lawn?

You can put away your lawn mower, and your hose pipe for time being because no your new synthetic lawn does not need any maintenance other than removing any unwanted debris that finds itself on to your lawn, these being; leaves, twigs, and dog mess.

Is Artificial Grass environmentally friendly?

Due to the lack of maintenance needed to maintain your artificial grass, common chemical herbicides and pesticides are not required, as well as the use of a lawnmower.

Will the sun fade my lawn?

All of our suppliers provide modern editions of artificial grass models that are fully UV and sunray protected, so there’s no need to worry about your luscious green lawn fading. On the other extreme, the latest models are also fully porous and drain rainwater with ease.

How to choose the right Landscape Contractor?

How to choose the right landscape contractor

Finding the right landscape contractor is a daunting task for most, however we’re here to help you ask the right questions to the right landscaper to finally get you that dream garden.

Step 1: How much you have

First things first, understand what your budget is. A general rule of thumb for when investing in your garden is to invest 10% of your home’s value, however landscape contractors are usually able to tailor to your needs if need be. A well-designed, contemporary garden that is well maintained will add value to your property immediately, so start planning for your dream garden now. Roughly figure out a budget you’re willing to spend and then next understand what you want your dream garden to look like.

Step 2: What you want from your landscape contractor

Once you have settled on a suitable budget for your new landscaping project, it’s now time to focus on the look and feel of your new garden. In other words, what are you paying a landscape contractor to do? Maybe you want a new driveway installed or a pool for the back garden, or you might want planting or general garden maintenance? To do this get some inspiration from websites such as Houzz or Pinterest. It’s important to have a clear idea of what you want your garden landscapers to do before you even make the first contact so that a clear idea can be given to the landscape designer over the phone.

Step 3: Research potential garden landscapers

Now you have a clear vision for what you want your future garden to look like, it’s time to find the right landscaper for you and your vision. An effective way to start researching garden landscaper contractors is to ask your neighbours, friends, and family whether they recommend anyone specifically. Word-of-mouth recommendations are an efficient way of gaining the trust of soon-to-be customers, with reports stating that 92% of consumers believe suggestions from family and friends more than advertising. I suggest making a shortlist of 5 - 10 suitable landscape contractors and checking their online presence, such as; Instagram, Facebook, and Website. A combination of their website and social media should give you the necessary information about the business, however, check specifically for; Professional accreditations, references, and reviews.

Step 4: Choose which garden designer you want to go with

The final stage of finding you the perfect landscape designer for you is to narrow down your current shortlist to 2 or 3 candidates who you were most impressed by when conducting research. Give each business a call and request a free quotation, and whilst on this call talk through your idea with your landscaping professional. With all quotations received, compare their respective prices, experience and references to make a final decision. (TIP: Thoroughly read through each quotation’s fine print)

Conclusion

Once you have confirmed an agreement with your new garden designer it is important to build a good working relationship between yourselves. This can be achieved by having open communication about your ideas and being open to suggestions from your landscape contractor.
